The English curriculum is designed to prepare students to read with comprehension, think critically, and communicate
effectively. To provide for individual learning needs, differentiated instruction is offered at each grade level.

A series of sequential courses designed to further develop students’ foundational and critical literacy skills.
Instructional activities are based on the Virginia Standards of Learning and develop students’ proficiency in
multimedia literacies, written communication, reading, research, critical thinking, and analysis skills. Students will
explore a variety of text genres, make comparisons between diverse texts, and apply learning to authentic contexts.
