About T. Benton Gayle Middle School

The rich legacy of T. Benton Gayle Middle School began in 1931 with the construction of Falmouth High School along Warrenton Road in southern Stafford County. Over the decades, our campus evolved significantly to meet the needs of a growing community, first becoming Gari Melchers Elementary School in 1952, then T. Benton Gayle Junior High School in 1965.

The school was named in honor of Dr. T. Benton Gayle, who dedicated 40 years of service as Stafford County's Superintendent of Schools. In 1976, it was officially renamed T. Benton Gayle Middle School. In 2004, we moved to our current state-of-the-art facility at 100 Panther Drive in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where we proudly serve over 950 students in grades 6–8, a number that continues to grow steadily each year.

Today, T. Benton Gayle Middle School upholds a long-standing tradition of academic excellence, strong community values, and Panther pride. As we continue to grow, we embrace our school motto: T. Benton Gayle Middle School... the PRIDE of Stafford!
